Hello Sippers!
So today we’re talking soft drinks being a popular beverage choice for millions of people all around the world.
Due to the fact that there’s a whole lot of different brands in the market and of course, a range of delicious flavors to choose from, It can be difficult to determine which ones are the most popular- as every continent have their own leading brand- so in today’s blog post, we will take a closer look at the leading soft drink brands in the world that we know of and their most purchased flavors.
Topping the list is Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola is perhaps the most well-known and widely recognized soft drink brand in the world. This OG brand made our childhood christmas and festive celebration lit.
Is it even a party if there’s no party jollof and bottle of “Coke” to wash it down? It’s interesting to note that the original Coca-cola recipe was first introduced in 1886, and was initially sold as a medicine with the claims that it could treat heartburn, nausea and even headaches.
Whether this product did all that, we cannot verify. However, Coca-cola has come a long way since then, becoming the cult favorite with its signature red and white logo. Today, Coca-cola is available in over 200 countries and is sold in more than 1.9 billion servings every day.
The Second is Pepsi
Pepsi is widely considered to be Coca-cola’s competition in terms of product color and cola taste.
It is no surprise that Pepsi is always the substitute for Coca-cola at parties and events, seeing as the first Pepsi-Cola was created with the aim of duplicating the recent success of Coca-cola back in 1898. But the distinct sweet-cola taste and unique branding of Pepsi has now earned it a large loyal fan-base of consumers who would gladly request for Pepsi rather than coca-cola anyday.
Pepsi also produces a wide range of snacks and beverages including; Mountain Dew, Lay’s, Doritos, 7up and Gatorade.
it is not surprising that as of today, Pepsi is currently available in over 200 countries and is sold in more than 1.5 billion servings every day.
In addition to Coca-Cola and Pepsi, there are a number of other soft drink brands that are popular around the world.
Next on the list is Fanta
Fanta became popular in Germany as a Coca-Cola alternative in 1940 due to the American trade embargo of Nazi Germany which affected the availability of Coca-Cola ingredients. Fanta soon dominated the German market, became available in different flavors from orange, to grape, strawberry and even lemon.
The rest they say is history.
Next we have Sprite
Our list wouldn’t be complete without the honourable mention of Sprite, which is known for its lemon-lime flavor, and the legendary “Dr. Pepper”; which was a big hit in Nigeria in the 80’s- Infact Generation X claim it has a unique flavor that is difficult to describe but I guess Millennials and Gen z’s would never really know. Now, would we?
Conclusion
The cool thing about the entire evolution of soft drinks is that, as consumers became more health-conscious many soft drink companies began to offer healthier alternatives to appeal to the Fit-Fam Community.
These alternatives like Coca-cola’s “Zero coke”, Iced tea and Sparkling water are pretty lower in sugar, calories, and contain more natural flavors and sweeteners.
Overall, the soft drink industry is constantly evolving to meet the needs and preferences of consumers, so it doesn’t matter if you prefer a classic cola or a more unique flavor or a healthier alternative; there is a soft drink out there for everyone and you can buy them all at Sippy’s.
